Recycling reactors for post-consumer mattresses

Recycling reactors for post-consumer mattresses

For the first time, an industry-strength chemical procedure with the associated process technology and system concept is available for producing recovered polyols from post-consumer mattresses – a solution which offers significant economic and ecological advantages.

The technology developed by H&S is targeting one of the most sustainable solutions, as it contributes to decrease landfill and incineration streams. Furthermore, it enables the recovery of valuable raw materials and production of new PU products such as

insulation panels and other rigid PU foam products with excellent product quality, reducing production costs at the same time. The production costs for recovered polyol are at least 35% below the market price for new polyols for PIR/PUR insulation foams. The annual quantity of recovered polyol which can be generated in the H&S reactor is 2,500 tons and is based on the conversion of 1,000 tons/a of foam residue.
